Painting a beach scene is fairly simple. The basic things that you’ll need are a canvas, paintbrushes, and a simple color palette. Still don’t know what to paint? Here is a step-by-step guide to two creative and easy beach scenes to paint for beginners this summer.

1. Sunset Beach Painting

Need some beach time? If you cannot pack up and take off to the beach, the next best thing that you can do is paint yourself there. Though this sunset beach painting is originally done on a wooden pallet board, you can even opt for a canvas if you aren’t comfortable with the base. This is one of the most fun and easy beach scenes to paint and add a bright-colored décor to your personal space. To get started with the DIY craft, make sure that you have the following supplies:

With all the essential supplies in your hand, it’s time to begin painting the ironic sunset beach scene. Follow the below-mentioned instructions to the letter:

Step 1: Start by dividing your canvas into three parts; sky, sea, and beach. There’s no need to be perfect, as creating an approximate template (layout) is necessary. Along the boundary of the third row, use a light pencil to sketch the beach with a bit of a curve.
Step 2: In your color palette, take out Moon Yellow and Yellow Ocher globs. Stroke the paints onto the sky section horizontally. One flawless way to do this is by painting long strokes from one end of the canvas to the other.
Step 3: Take out a glop of Autumn Leaves, dip your paintbrush into it and streak it into the yellow-colored sky to the waterline. Note that the wetter the yellow paint layer is, the smoother the blend will be. This will create a yellowish-red sky.
Step 4: With the sky almost ready, it’s time to move on to the second part of the DIY craft – painting the beach. Take out a glop of Burnt Umber and fill in the curvy beach area you sketched earlier in “Step 01.” For a more realistic look, mix some sand with the paint to add more texture to the beach.
Step 5: Once the base has dried, take a tin can, place it on the left side of the canvas (halfway down the waterline) and trace around the other half. In simpler words, sketch a half sun.
Step 6: To the sun, mix Moon Yellow and Wicker White globs and start painting the semi-circle. To paint a smudgy border of the shimmering sun, add a thick smudge of paint and lightly drag the dry brush across the sun before the paint dries.
Step 7: Now load the paintbrush with the mixture of Wicker White and Linen and paint the area of the sand following the contours. You can also add a layer of Coffee Latte here and there.
Step 8: For added texture, use a scruffy paintbrush to roughly brush up the mixture of Coffee Latte, Wicker White, and Linen in the beach section. If you don’t have a scruffy paintbrush, use a wadded piece of sponge instead.
Step 9: Before you start painting the ocean, tape off the sunset so that the colors don’t mix up. Mix Blue Cobalt Hue and Prussian Blue globs and start stroking the paint horizontally. Keep repeating the step until you get a fine layer. Add more Cobalt than Prussian as you paint.
Step 10: As you get closer to the beach, mix Wicker White with Cobalt Hue to lighten the ocean. To merge the ocean with the beach, use a scruffy and paint Wicker White along the curvy boundary. The rougher, the better.
Step 11: To create ocean waves, take a sponge and dip it in Wicker White. Now create rough waves along the shore. Take the tape off and let your sunset beach scene painting dry!

2. Tropical Beach Painting

The next painting on our easy beach scenes to paint guide is the tropical beach painting. You will be painting an exotic view of the beach comprising palm trees, string lights, and an umbrella with two beach chairs. To create this beach scene, you will need the following supplies:

Larger Pouncer (Optional)
White Chalk (Optional)

Titanium White
Cobalt Blue
Mars Black
Primary Yellow
Medium Magenta

Follow these steps to paint a tropical beach scene painting:

Step 1: To paint the sky, use a flat brush and start stroking Cobalt Blue at the top. Paint left to right of the canvas. As you move down, ensure to leave several blank spaces.
Step 2: Without rinsing the Cobalt off your brush, load it into Titanium White and start filing in the blank areas. Blend the white with blue as you move down.
Step 3: Now, take a T-square ruler to make a horizontal line so that you know from where the waterline starts. A rough way to do this is by drawing a line about five fingers from the canvas’s bottom.
Step 4: Rinse the brush off the white and blue. Now load it with Titanium White and Medium Magenta and create strokes to fill in the blank areas. Paint it throughout the sky, blending the colors all together to the horizontal waterline. Make sure to paint Titanium White along the horizon line.
Step 5: Dip the paintbrush in Primary Yellow and add it to the sky, near the horizon line. This will create an orange tone in the sky.
Step 6: To make the sun, take the large pouncer and apply Titanium White to the sponger using your finger.
Step 7: Stamp the sun on top of the sky, four fingers below the top of the canvas. If you want the sun to be brighter, add another layer of yellow.
Step 8: With the sky ready, it’s time to paint the water. Load the brush in the mixture of Titanium White and Cobalt Blue and paint the entire ocean to the bottom of the canvas. Dip the paintbrush in white and mark lighter strokes to create a reflection in the ocean.
Step 9: In order to paint the land silhouette, load onto Mars Black and paint a curvy line that starts out high and then dips down.
Step 10: Use a thinner paintbrush and Mars Black to create palm trees alongside the seashore. You can do three on the left and two on the right, leaving some space in the middle.
Step 11: Now, use chalk to sketch the umbrella and chairs. Paint them all black.
